WorshipBeginning with the appointed Gospel text from the last Sunday in June, we have transitioned in this Pentecost season into the middle section of the Gospel of Luke where Jesus “sets his face to go to Jerusalem.” (Luke 9: 51). While the conclusion to Jesus’ earthly ministry has always been the cross, it is at this moment that Jesus’ actions and words take on a greater urgency as the road leads ever closer to God’s holy city on the hill. The individual stories from this middle section are all truly unique, offering different themes and lessons on faith, discipleship, and the Kingdom of God, however, Jesus’ impending death still lurk closely in the background of each. The Lenten journey we began together back in February may seem a long time ago, but these texts from the Gospel of Luke remind us that we carry the cross with us all year round, we don’t leave it behind on Easter morning. So wear your crosses proudly around your necks, make the sign of the cross on your forehead to remember your baptism, and come to hear on Sunday mornings how discipleship in the season of Pentecost always leads forward toward a cross outside the gates of the city of Jerusalem See you at worship!!
New Schedule for 5 Sundays in Month-The Congregation Council has decided that on the months that have 5 Sundays, there will be no 8:00 a.m. worship service. They want to encourage everyone to attend the 10:30 a.m. worship service and attend the Pot-Luck luncheon in Luther Hall, immediately following that worship service. The council feels that this will bring together the congregation for fellowship, fun, and good food. Everyone is asked to provide one or more of their favorite dishes for the pot-luck luncheon. We would like to invite you to bring your Bibles to worship on Sunday morning so that you might follow the reading of the Word during the Service. If you wish, you may find the Bible passages prior to the service by checking your bulletin, and then marking them in your Bible. |
