He
Is
The "Stable" One!

Are you a "Stable" person? Do you have a "Stable" Home, a "Stable" Family? You might be wondering, "What on earth is he asking?" This quizzical query is intended to be like the Star that shone for the wise men, the Magi, that led them to the place where the Christ Child lay. For, you see, He is the "Stable" One! To be a "Stable" person, to have a "Stable" home and a "Stable" family is to "come and adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the New Born King". To behold Him, to honor Him, to adore Him is to receive a gift, provision for all our journey. A "Stable" is a place of shelter, safety, and security. As we behold Him, we have shelter for all our days, for all kinds of weather. For the "Stable" One is with us always!

This past year swirled up a treacherous typhoon, a tsunamic tide that toppled corporate towers and created a world wide calamity. The wave action and subsequent aftershock threatened the livelihood of many. Some lost homes; others, jobs; and still others their stored up retirement savings. It has been scary. Bailouts by the billions ballooned uncertainty and chaos.

Max Lucado wrote a prayer entitled, You Have Our Attention, that indeed grabbed ours. In it he wrote,

"You told us this would happen.
You shot straight about loving stuff and worshipping money.
Greed will break your heart, You warned.
Money will love you and leave you.
Don't put your trust in riches that are so uncertain.
You are right.
Money is fickle and we just got dumped.
We were wrong to spend what we didn't have.
Wrong to neglect prayer and ignore the poor.
Wrong to think we ever earned a dime. We didn't, You gave it.
And now tell us Father, are You taking it?

Max's query was, "God can You make something good out of this mess?"

The answer, Of course You can ... You always have!

To be a "Stable" person, to have a "Stable" home and family is to know the "Stable" One, to have our Hope in Him!

May you be found "at the "Stable" this Christmas, adoring Him•••that you and your household of faith may be safe and warm..."Stable" in His care and keeping. May His Word be your guide to a "Stable" Life!

I guess you can tell what most of our year has been! After 9 years of courtship, Scott and Maggie announced. And believe it or not, it was a surprise because we were so used to them being single and dating still. October 17th was the big day and what a beautiful day it was--both the occasion and the weather. We want to so deeply thank all of you for making it the special day for our family that it was!

Scott has been accepted to physical therapy school, and Maggie is planning to go back to school for either physician's assistant or optometry degrees. They have a lot of decisions facing them with school ahead, but Scott and Maggie have been a "team" through a lot of decision making already.

Matt and Monica are living in Cedar Park (north Austin) and will probably be relocating at the end of this school year if house hunting is prosperous. They had just bought their house to be close to their work. Matt changed jobs to his alma mater at Texas Lutheran University where he is enjoying being athletic trainer with his college roommate and professor. Monica is athletic trainer at Westwood High School. We enjoyed Thanksgiving and getting to know the Johannessens at Matt and Monica's.

Amanda is in her 2nd year at Texas Lutheran with calculus III rating very positively! She is planning ahead for adding psychology minor, graduating early, working toward masters, and getting teacher certified with all the decisions involved with this. Her college professors have lent good solid advice for her. And she is "Miss Zumba Queen!" She plans her trips home around zumba class schedules.

Barney and Leah decided to celebrate empty nest with a cruise to Alaska and the Inner Passage--Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria, BC, Canada. Actually this thrifty couple decided to take advantage of the low price offers!! We visited Leah's relatives in Seattle, awed at the plane window view of Mt. Rainier, and watched July 4th fireworks from her uncle's "penthouse" rooftop.

Here's hoping for many warm and special blessings for you and your families as we strive for "stability" that comes only through the "stable" child!
