A sick man turned to his doctor as he was prepare to leave the examination room and said, 'Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side. Very quietly, the doctor said, 'I don't know.' 'You don't know? You're, a Christian man, and don't know what's on the other side?' The doctor was holding the handle of the door; On the other side came a sound of scratching and whining. As he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said. 'Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing. I know my Master is there and that is enough.' Author Unknown Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

The events of this last weekend made me think a lot about the end of an age as our family lost an Uncle. I was with the family over the weekend as he lay dying, and the struggles he was dealing with. The struggles we were dealing with made us mindful of the power of prayer, and the power of Jesus. I don’t think any of us could of gotten through this weekend without the feeling that God is with us.

We as Christian people have something to fall back on in our hour of need, and that is God sends people into our lives at times like these. They support us and pray with us, hold our hands, and cry along with us. When our Uncle died there was such a peacefulness that came over him and he knew who his Master was because he was right there to welcome him into his loving arms. In that instant his earthly vessel became only a memory in our heart and we will carry that memory forward. We did not lose hope because we lost him, we gained power from the Lord to carry on with the sure and certain hope in Christ Jesus. When you find yourself in a similar situation call on the Lord in prayer and he will be with you even if you sometimes do not recognize the form in which he comes.
