Trinity Growth Program

The Trinity Growth Program (TGP) had its beginning in 1987 when the Chapel Committee recommended to the Congregation Council that a Long Range Planning Committee be appointed to formulate a five-year plan. The original Long Range Planning Committee was composed of Don Vogt, Dr. John Beck, Virginia Berger, Rodney Clark, Jess Kern, Bill Kickendahl, Rae Denise Miller, Allan Weigand, and Bruce Kaiser.

The Long Range Plan contained two beliefs as cornerstones:

(1) The building program must be firmly rooted in the needs of the congregation to grow in its ministries.

(2) The building program must be undertaken as an instrument for spiritual development of the people of the congregation, as well as an instrument for material development of facilities.

In January of 1990 the congregation approved the plans and authorized construction to restore the Chapel and build the New Educational wing. The congregation obtained a 10 year mortgage which was retired in 8 years.

In 2002 the TGP Committee was reactivated and on April 3, 2002 began discussions with Fisher and Heck, architects to update our Master Plan. This was completed in December 2002. We now have our Preliminary Plans and have proposed Weaver and Jacobs to be our construction manager. This is where we are at the present time.

Update

Note: The Luther Hall came tumbling down on Friday, June 11, 2004. As it started coming down, there were some folks who had lumps in their throats and tears in their eyes. Lots of good memories were had in Luther Hall.

Since construction is ongoing around where Luther Hall once stood, the walkway beside the chapel has been closed off! If you need to come to the church or pastor's offices, please enter from the DeLeon Street entrance in the new educational building!!!

New Trinity Lutheran fellowship building will meet congregation’s need

This article appeared in The Victoria Advocate on June 3, 2004:

Trinity Lutheran Church plans to demolish the old Luther Hall on Constitution Street within the next few weeks and replace it with a new $1.1 million fellowship building.

The new 6,600-square-foot structure will include improved handicapped accessibility, a partial gym and a new kitchen, said Bill Wheeler, the church building committee chairperson. The new building win be larger than the old one, but Wheeler said he didn't know the exact square footage of Luther Hall.

The old facility, built in 1928, in many ways no longer met the needs of the congregation, said Pastor Barney Matocha.

The church's congregation includes many elderly members who can no longer navigate the stairways in the building, Wheeler added.

Internal demolition of the building is already under way, Matocha said. External demolitions should begin in the next few weeks, Wheeler said. The church expects to finish construction of the new building in February 2005.

The project is being financed through a branch of the Lutheran Church, Matocha said. The church is also renovating its classroom and office space, Wheeler said.
